Drive smoothly and don’t be erratic
Adjusting the way you drive to be smoother on the controls can have a huge impact on fuel efficiency. There are fuel efficient driving courses that you can enrol your drivers on to maximise fuel savings, but the following tips will be a good start.
Smooth braking – Braking smoothly and taking advantage of engine braking to slow you down can reduce fuel consumption by 60%
Engine braking – The whole time you are engine braking, you are using less fuel than when idling.
Avoid over-revving – Sending your rev counter into the red isn’t good. So change gear in good time when you pull away or when accelerating.
Read the road ahead – Pre-empting whether you need to slow down or speed up can reduce burning extra fuel needlessly.
